I am a designer based in Oxfordshire, specialising in print and typography. With a broad range of design experience across freelance, agency and in-house work, I am currently Head of Design at letterpress stationery brand, Archivist.

From the wonders of typeface personality and the sensitivities to historical contexts to the playful and colourful nature of print, for me, design is about balancing art, informed decision-making and a user-centric focus. Where type can help with processing information more effectively and clever printing can add to an immersive brand experience, my design process brings a love for research and imagination and always collaborating and championing with other creatives in the industry and beyond.

A few of my favourite things…

Print

Print is immersive. It’s texture, heritage, nostalgia, but also bold and progressive. The digital age brings a new world and while print will always be my first love, I make sure to find integration between the 3D, Ai world while still celebrating the physical design world through print.

Typography & Lettering

Whether we take Beatrice Warde’s crystal goblet notion or Ellen Lupton’s more delicious ice-cream sundae, using type is the most joyous part of my job. Integrating historical understanding with considered hierarchy and fun hand lettering and type design, I love the tone and character that type can bring to branding and design projects.

Sensitivity to design past, present & future

With a huge thanks to my primary school history teacher and the privilege of being lectured by the amazing James Mosley, history is always a key consideration in my work. Whether it’s a small decision in a type choice for letterpress or being accurately appropriate for vintage matchbox label artwork, I take great pleasure in educating myself and clients about how what’s been before can aid moving forward with incredible design work.
